thescreen: NT Live Encore: Fleabag - 21/11/2019 07:30 PM

See the hilarious, award-winning, one-woman show that inspired the BBC’s hit TV series Fleabag, broadcasted to cinemas from London’s West End.

Written and performed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve) and directed by Vicky Jones, Fleabag is a rip-roaring look at some sort of woman living her sort of life.

Fleabag may seem oversexed, emotionally unfiltered and self-obsessed, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. With family and friendships under strain and a guinea pig café struggling to keep afloat, Fleabag suddenly finds herself with nothing to lose.

Playing to sold-out audiences in New York and London, don’t miss your chance to see this ‘legitimately hilarious show’ (New Yorker), broadcasted to a cinema near you.

Hansard
by Simon Wood

Hansard; noun
The official report of all parliamentary debates.

See two-time Olivier Award winners, Lindsay Duncan (Birdman, About Time) and Alex Jennings (The Lady in the Van, The Queen), in this brand-new play by Simon Wood, broadcast live from the National Theatre in London.

It’s a summer’s morning in 1988 and Tory politician Robin Hesketh has returned home to the idyllic Cotswold house he shares with his wife of 30 years, Diana. But all is not as blissful as it seems. Diana has a stinking hangover, a fox is destroying the garden, and secrets are being dug up all over the place. As the day draws on, what starts as gentle ribbing and the familiar rhythms of marital scrapping quickly turns to blood-sport.

Don’t miss this witty and devastating portrait of the governing class, directed by Simon Godwin (NT Live: Antony & Cleopatra, Twelfth Night) and part of National Theatre Live’s 10th birthday season.

An Evening With Sir Geoff Hurst - 23/01/2020 07:30 PM

On July 31st 1966 a young man of 25 spent the day mowing his grass and washing the car. Nothing remarkable about that you might say. The day before though, he had scored a hat trick for England in the World Cup final!! Yes, that was Geoff Hurst, now Sir Geoff and this story is mainly just to illustrate the difference between the life of a top player then and now. Geoff is remarkably good and engaging company and that makes him an ideal candidate for the short theatre tour he is currently doing around the country with his friend and agent Terry Baker at the helm guiding proceedings. The reviews have been amazing, with standing ovations the order of the day.

What’s your most often asked question, I ask. It’s probably was the ball over the line. The goal stood so it doesn’t matter because it counted, is my answer but I do believe it was in, is the reply.

We get lots of West Ham questions as well even when we are up north, Geoff tells me, which illustrates the popular appeal of the hammers even today. And this is possibly a legacy from 1966 when we had myself, Bobby Moore and Martin Peters in the team. Here’s a few of Geoff’s opinions

Firstly, on Sir Alf Ramsey

He was insistent that people were part of the group. His primary concern was that everyone gelled together and got along. He picked people to fit his system and it worked. He ruled very firmly and what he said was pretty much the rule of law. We couldn’t argue with that though. Look what happened.

On the day before the final. 29th July 66.

Alf said we were going to the cinema. We walked, the whole team to watch Those magnificent men in their flying machines. Then we walked back. Probably most of us had an ice cream in the interval as well.

Prematch at the final.

It was a quiet dressing room. No shouting and screaming to wind everyone up. He spoke to the players outlining his expectations and you had to do what he said. You followed instructions or you were out. It was a team of mostly hard nosed professionals and they did as they were told. It worked though.

Walking up the Wembley tunnel.

It could have been daunting but you had to embrace it. I looked around and thought, we can’t get beat today. We just can’t. 95000 in the stadium, the biggest TV audience ever recorded, the whole country behind us. We have to win. And of course we did.

If you go and see the show, there’s loads more to hear about. Six goals in one game, 250 goals in the league, personal life situations, the loss of Gordon Banks, Alan Ball and the others.

The famous Hard men, muddy pitches, the greatest goal scorers Jimmy Greaves stories, the genius of Bobby Charlton and Bobby Moore. What he thinks of the current side, and there’s no questions refused in the audience Q&A.

To finish this interview, I ask how Geoff views his remarkable life and times. It’s a typically modest answer; “My life has been remarkable in many ways but for other people looking at me. For me it’s just been my life with very obvious highs and some huge personal downs and sadness’s. But obviously from a professional point of view it was remarkable and I’m still here in my late 70s telling the tale and laughing and sometimes almost crying with the audiences.”

Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense - 29/02/2020 07:30 PM

The Theatre Chipping Norton and The Barn Theatre present Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense. A new play adapted from the works of PG Wodehouse, written by the Goodale Brothers.

Take your seats with caution! Aristocratic buffoon Bertie Wooster has hired the theatre for the night to present his one-man show detailing a recent and rather spectacular series of misadventures, including the theft of a novelty cow creamer and a narrow escape from unwanted matrimony. The only trouble is Bertie hasn’t worked out who’s going to play the parts. Will the show be a disaster? Will the scenery stay upright? Or will his trusty manservant Jeeves step in and save the day?

“I have to say I’m finding this acting business rather easy Jeeves! Apart from having to do a newt impression, I think that went tremendously well.”

In a joyous reimagining of the classic P.G.Wodehouse characters, three actors hurl themselves from role to role as they race to tell the story of Bertie’s own farcical adventures.

Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense was created by the Goodale Brothers, adapted primarily from P.G. Wodehouse‘ ‘The Code of the Woosters.’ After hugely successful runs in the West End, it won the 2014 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy.

Tony Stockwell - Psychic Medium - 21/05/2020 07:30 PM

Remarkably compelling, amazingly detailed and always humorous. The popular star of TV’s Street Psychic, Psychic Private Eyes and Psychic Academy, Tony Stockwell has a long established credibility as one of the top Intuitive Mediums and has shared the stage all round the world with international mediums such as Colin Fry, James van Praagh and Lisa Williams. Tony demonstrates his belief that those who have passed can communicate with their loved ones with detailed messages frequently including names, dates and locations and all delivered with emotion, sensitivity and empathy. The evening may include psychometry, photographs readings and psychic prediction.

Recent legislative guidelines insist that any Evening of Mediumship should be billed ‘for entertainment purposes’. Tony certainly uses his natural wit, showmanship and Cockney charisma to entertain but more important, Mediumship has the potential to change someone’s life and instil in them a sense of peace, comfort and purpose. We hope that nobody can fail to come away untouched by the experience.
